EAC Trade Union Congress

The East African Trade Union Confederation (EATUC) is a regional trade union organization that represents workers in the East African Community (EAC). The EAC is a regional intergovernmental organization composed of seven countries: Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

EATUC was founded in 1988 and is headquartered in Arusha, Tanzania. The confederation is composed of national trade union federations from each of the EAC Partner States. EATUC's mission is to promote and protect the rights of workers in the region, and to ensure that they have a voice in the regional integration process.

EATUC's key objectives include:

  1. Promoting the ratification and implementation of international labour standards by EAC Partner States
  2. Promoting the decent work agenda in the region
  3. Harmonizing labour laws and policies in East Africa
  4. Promoting the integration of youth and women in all spheres of socio-economic development
  5. Promoting the free movement of workers within the EAC
